Home to more than 25 tech unicorns (startup companies valued at more than $1 billion), the Austin region has become world-famous for its thriving, creative, and innovative startup ecosystem. Determined to maintain its momentum, stakeholders reveal how Austin can establish itself as a global hub of innovative technology.

“The state of the startup ecosystem in Austin is red hot. We are tracking over 3,800 startups and scale-ups in the region,” said Roland Peña, Senior Vice President for Global Technology and Innovation for Opportunity Austin and the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce.
Ranked No. 25 worldwide in Trailblazers’ list of global startup ecosystems, the Austin region hosts 146 VCs and has seen more than 371 scale-ups across the five-county metro with an aggregate value of more than $128 billion, an all-time high.
According to Peña, diversity and a strong sense of community are driving the region’s impressive performance.
“Companies are very successful here. One of the reasons is because our businesses are focused on how to complement each other, enhance our respective industries, and support the ecosystem so that all businesses thrive,” Peña said.
“This creates an opportunity for innovation and diversified industry sectors and attracts great talent from all over the world. Characteristically and by nature, our businesses care for each other, collaborate, and want to see each other succeed. And I think that's our secret sauce,” he added.
