Known as the energy capital of the world, Houston is home to 4,600 domestic and multinational energy companies, among them Japan Petroleum Exploration U.S. Corp. (JAPEX US), which has operated in the United States since 2012.

“Texas has vast energy resources, good infrastructure for transport of energy from the field to market, and very stable political conditions,” JAPEX US President Yu Matsuno told GMI POST, sharing the top reasons behind the high-concentration of global energy companies in Houston.
According to Matsuno, the high number of energy companies in Houston is what caught the attention of state-owned JAPEX, which eventually formed the American subsidiary.
“Most oil and gas field operators cannot source their capital by themselves, which is why they usually seek investors to support their operations,” said Matsuno, who added the company is committed to spending $500 million for its activities in Texas.
Matsuno stressed that JAPEX US will ensure that the oil and gas delivered to its Japanese and the American customers are ethically sourced and will work closely with local communities to accomplish that goal.
