Formed in 1987 as a joint venture between Nucor Corp. and Yamato Kogyo, Nucor-Yamato Steel Co. started from a cotton field in northeast Arkansas and developed into the largest structural steel mill in the Western Hemisphere.
“We currently have an annual production capacity of about 2.5 million tons of steel beams and have serviced iconic projects not just in North America, but in other countries as well,” said Nucor-Yamato Steel Vice President and General Manager Jon Witherow, adding that the company was the market leader in North America for steel beam and structural products.

Meanwhile, Yamato Kogyo America President Norio Iino pointed out that Nucor-Yamato Steel’s performance was down to the hard work of its more than 1,000 employees.
According to Witherow, Nucor-Yamato Steel’s 36 years of success is proof that long-term partnerships between Japanese and American companies is not only possible but also yields world-class products and services.
“We trust each other and promote the values of teamwork and innovation. Our success is driven by our culture of inclusivity, wherein we take care of our teams, and we also have the best interest of our American and Japanese parent companies at heart,” said Witherow.
Iino believes that meshing together the best of both cultures is what will push the company to reach new heights and provide better services for both its customers and employees.
