Based in Houston, Texas, Nissan Chemical America Corporation (NCA) is a subsidiary of Nissan Chemical Corporation, a leader in chemical innovations for more than 130 years and a pioneer in nanoparticle technology. CEO William Smith shares more details with GMI POST on how the company plans to revolutionize the use of nanotechnology across a wide range of industries through original technologies such as nanoActiv® solutions.
“Creating a totally original technology, from concept to full-scale development and marketing, is the most exciting thing I've done in my professional career,” Smith said, emphasizing that the nanoActiv® solutions are an original technology developed by NCA and are the only engineered nanoparticle products used in the oil and gas industry today.
Designed to maximize hydrocarbon recovery, Smith explained that “through NCA’s nanoActiv® solutions, energy companies can effectively enhance and improve oil recovery and production, and enable the action of other oilfield chemistries such as surfactants, inhibitors, dispersants, friction reducers, and polymers.”
“There's nothing like it in the entire world. In fact, Nissan Chemical America started this whole nanotechnology movement in the oil and gas industry,” he added.
NCA has consistently received phenomenal support from both the city of Laporte and the state level as well, according to Smith. He says the company’s success is only possible because NCA is able to combine the best from both America and Japan, which he highlights is a product of years of trust and mutual respect between both countries.
“Japanese companies will find a lot of support here in Texas, particularly, Japanese businesses that are just starting out and never had a plant or a company in the United States. There’s a big and active community here in Texas that new Japanese businesses can rely on for support and understanding,” said Smith.
With this, Smith encourages Japanese companies to come and visit Texas for further investments and partnerships.
“Come to Texas,” he emphasized. “This state will welcome you with open arms.”
“In particular, come to the Houston area if you're in chemicals and manufacturing because this area is second to none in the world regarding the people, the infrastructure, and the resources you need to build a successful business. I mean that with all my heart. There is no better place to establish a manufacturing site in the world.”
