Eager to explore fresh opportunities for collaboration and breathe new life into architecture, global design and architectural firm SCAAA opened a new studio in Dallas, Texas and launched its operations in Osaka, Japan.
“Texas is going through a lot of changes; and where there's change, there's opportunity. We projected that Dallas will be another burgeoning metropolis based on our knowledge and experience of urban development and the history of cities with similar characteristics,” said SCAAA Founder and Principal Steven Song.
“As for our office in Osaka, Japan, we opened the studio in partnership with Kuga Corporation right before the pandemic. With some of the world’s largest urban areas, the Japanese market is one that we really want to get more into,” Song added.
After several years of experience in leading architectural firms, Song developed and refined the proprietary SCAAA Process with colleagues, Young Hwan Choi and Robert Aitcheson. The method involves adopting a holistic view of a problem and then carrying out extensive research before advising clients on long-term solutions and design strategies that address economic, social, cultural, and contextual realities.
“It's a really exciting opportunity to operate across regions and draw parallels between different cultures, while still being sensitive to the nuances of each location. And this global connection has opened up more opportunities for us to work with clients who see value in finding that common ground of inherent values instead of focusing on perceived barriers,” Song said.
“It's always scary to cross borders and face uncertainties. But with the right amount of research and the right partners, anyone can thrive in new places,” he added.
