In pursuing a sustainable future, Canada has taken remarkable strides toward achieving net zero electricity generation. Leading the charge in the country is Electricity Canada, a national association of innovative electricity providers. Considered the national voice for sustainable electricity, the association encourages its members to step up their climate action commitment following the passage of the Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act in 2021.
“The Canadian electricity system has an interesting starting point when it comes to transitioning to a lower carbon future. We are in an enviable position already as 84% of the electricity produced in Canada is from non-emitting sources,” Electricity Canada President and CEO Francis Bradley.
Electricity Canada also recognizes the role of technology in mitigating climate change and has emerged as a trailblazer in propelling Canada towards a greener future.
“As computing power increases and data continues to grow, models and algorithms will foster a new age of artificial intelligence. As such, data governance, the process of managing the availability, usability, integrity, and security of the data in enterprise systems, will be key to its proper use in the electricity sector,” said Electricity Canada on its official website.
According to the organization, advanced machine learning algorithms can analyze vast data sets and optimize energy production and distribution. It also adds that predictive analytics can help forecast energy demands accurately, ensure the efficient utilization of resources, and minimize downtime and energy wastage.
For Electricity Canada, AI’s wide-reaching applications including customer service solutions, asset management applications, load prediction, and energy management solutions optimize the integration of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, into the grid. They also allow the efficient utilization of excess energy during peak production.
By advocating for the use of AI and technology to promote sustainable energy, Electricity Canada is steering the largest country in North America and the rest of the world toward a cleaner and greener future.
