Established in 2005, LPU has shattered conventions by making "AI & AI Ethics" a mandatory subject for all first-year undergraduate students.

“I'm a big believer that AI will substantially transform humans for the better,” LPU Vice Chancellor of LPU Preeti Bajaj, who believes that this cutting-edge technology is capable of advancing human existence.

Firm in its commitment, LPU has introduced the groundbreaking “AI & AI Ethics” course across all of its 155-plus graduate and masters programs.

Asked about the decision to embrace AI amid the serious concerns expressed by some experts, Bajaj stressed, “Not only is AI technology already here, but it is also continuously and rapidly changing entire industries and services, whether it’s in business, finance, agriculture, engineering, or even sports and social sciences.”

“We can’t stop humans from innovating, so we’d rather build our students’ skills on how to master new technologies and more importantly, teach them how to use these technologies in an ethical manner,” she added.

Bajaj also said more than 30% of LPU's ongoing research projects are AI-based, a testament to the school’s unwavering commitment to spearheading innovation.

Bajaj, a doctor in electronics engineering with 32 years of experience, underscored the school’s commitment to training the workforce of the future and meeting the evolving demands of the world while recognizing that humans will remain indispensable to shaping the future.

“AI can never replace critical thinking. We need to teach our students how to grab these new opportunities and work closely with them to build better industries,” she said.
',

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presided over a nation predicted to become the next economic superpower.

Invest India, the most awarded investment promotion agency in the world, breaks down why many foreign businesses are placing their bets in the South Asian nation.

India is one of the world's fastest-growing economies

Comparing India’s FDI inflows from 2000 to 2021, the foreign investments coming into the South Asian nation has increased 20 times. The latest International Monetary Fund (IMF) report also shows that India’s economy is projected to grow at 5.9% this year, or 271% higher than the U.S.’ projected growth rate.

India is set to surpass China to become the world’s most populous nation

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in its "State of World Population Report” said India will have around 2.9 million people more than China this year. The same report also showed that India has the world's largest number of people between the ages of 15 and 24.

International management consultancy firm Mckinsey & Company supports the numbers in a report, stating that: “One in every five Gen Z-ers in the world lives in India.” Whether as a consumer base or source of talent, India’s large youth population presents an enormous growth opportunity for both domestic and international businesses.

World-class infrastructure

India's robust population and economy have paved the way for major developments in the country’s infrastructure. With the goal of making it as easy and efficient as possible to do business in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to spend a whopping 1.7% of India’s GDP on transport infrastructure this 2023 — around twice the amount spent in America and most European countries. This includes new bridges, road transport and highways, industrial parks, and multipurpose towers.

According to India’s Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance and India Investment Grid, India’s commitment to an enhanced and improved infrastructure program will drive economic growth, foreign investment interest, and sectoral competitiveness.

Investor-friendly policies and benefits.

The Indian government has laid out new economic policies that make the country more attractive to foreign investors. Depending on the state and industrial sector, India offers foreign tax deductions, grants, and rebates. It has also lifted prohibitions on full foreign ownership of certain businesses in some sectors.

With India becoming a major global hub for FDIs, it seems like Prime Minister Modi’s vision of turning the South Asian nation into a $5 trillion economy by 2025 is right on track.

And that mutual trust and mutual respect is not an outcome of diplomatic ties, but its biggest reason and strength is you, every single Indian living in Australia,” Modi told thousands of Indians settled in Australia, who gathered at the Qudos Bank Arena.

Also attending the event was Albanese, who lauded the healthy relationship between the two countries, several members of his cabinet and members of parliament.

"Our strong partnership with India will deliver benefits for Australia in trade, investment and business, and regional security and stability. This is a relationship we need to invest in,” the Australian prime minister said.

The Indian prime minister also told the audience that he saw Australia and India as long-term allies and expected trade between the two countries to double in the next five years.

Both heads of government are set to meet again in New Delhi, India this September 2023 for the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
',

“I know our president is looking forward to travelling to India in September. We're really excited about what's to come in the next few months. We are really thankful for the tremendous work India has done by hosting the G20 and we look forward to actively participating in the many future G20 meetings coming up this year, including the New Delhi Leaders’ Summit in September,” said Lu.

India and the U.S. share strong economic and political ties. The U.S. is India’s largest trading partner and export market. Many U.S. companies have expanded their operations in India. Likewise, Indian investment in the United States last year amounted to $12.7 billion and generated more than 70,000 American jobs. Overall, U.S.-India bilateral trade in goods and services reached a record $157 billion in 2022, according to the U.S. Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.

Lu said that the U.S. sees the G20 as a powerful forum and opportunity to collaborate with the world's leading economies to respond to global challenges, including food security, health, energy insecurity, climate change and unsustainable debt.

“We have seen how the G20 brings together countries for collective action. This meeting in September is no exception,” he added.

The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in New Delhi will take place from September 9 to10 this year. The summit will be a culmination of all the G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies.

At the end of the New Delhi summit, the G20 leaders are expected to release a declaration that will reaffirm their priorities and lay out the solutions reached during previous G20 meetings held the past year.
',

GMI POST spoke with the Bombay Chamber Director General Sandeep Khosla and President of the Board of Directors Nilesh Shah to know more about the Bombay Chamber and the substantial investment opportunities in India.

“As a chamber, we serve as an effective vehicle of communication and collaboration between regulatory bodies, our members, interested investors, and even other industry associations beyond the boundaries of Mumbai,” said Shah.

Shah added that the Bombay Chamber supported a large base of organizations across sectors, from SMEs to large corporations, and brought them together in the hopes that members would support each other and come with new solutions to the most pressing global issues.

A recent project that highlights the chamber’s dedication to promoting innovation is its partnership with the Society for Mumbai Incubation Lab to Entrepreneurship (SMILE) under the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM). Together, the SMILE Council and Bombay Chamber will work with local civic tech entrepreneurs to convert their ideas into viable business propositions.

“We have a very large and thriving business community. And while large Indian companies are already known in the Western world, our micro and small-medium enterprises are so innovative and entrepreneurial that anyone who wants to invest in them would really benefit,” said Khosla.

About the investment opportunities in India that await foreign investors, Shah said: “India is open for business. In fact, India is one of the most open and unique markets from an investment point of view. The largest private sector bank in India is mostly owned by foreigners. The largest housing finance company is also owned by foreigners.”

“The same can be said for India’s largest automobile company, India’s largest FMCG company, and India’s largest publicly-listed insurance company. You will find that India has been more than happy to give majority ownership to foreigners in many sectors. And it’s thanks to these kinds of partnerships that many companies have built and will continue to find success in India,” he added.

GMI POST presents an overview of India’s G20 Presidency and its ambitious aspiration to promote “just and equitable growth for all in the world."

The theme of India's G20 presidency is Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which is drawn from the ancient Sanskrit text of the Maha Upanishad and translates to "One Earth, One Family, One Future. The theme affirms the value of all life, from humans and animals to plants and microorganisms. It pushes for a greater sense of interconnectedness and community.

The theme also promotes environmentally-conscious practices and a sustainable way of living at the individual, local, national, and global level to achieve a cleaner future for all through the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) movement.

“India's G20 Presidency will work to promote this universal sense of one-ness. Hence, our theme: One Earth, One Family, One Future,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

According to the official G20 website, India will call for rules-based peace and order and just growth for nations in all the 200+ events planned in the run up to the Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi in September. Also topping the agenda are accelerating the progress on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), advancing technological transformation and digital public infrastructure, and highlighting women-led development.

Established in 1999 as a platform to discuss global economic and financial issues, the G20 is composed of 19 nations and the European Union (EU). Collectively, it accounts for almost two-thirds of the global population, 75% of global trade, and 85% of the world's GDP.
',

During the 2nd G20 Health Working Group meeting on April 19, Mandivaya mentioned three key goals: (1) health emergencies prevention, preparedness and response with focus on one health and antimicrobial resistance (AMR); (2) strengthened cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector with a focus on access to and availability of safe, effective, quality and affordable medical countermeasures such as vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics; and (3) digital health innovations and solutions to aid universal health coverage and improve healthcare service delivery.

Mandaviya also said India’s “One Earth, One Health” vision, which involves “holistic health care for all creatures — humans, animals, or plants,” can become a reality only through more active and formal global collaboration. He added that innovation in digital health and the use of technology in health service will be a major part of the agenda of the upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi this September.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has a strong political will to lead in innovative research and technology supported solutions which are commercially viable with universal acceptability,” Mandaviya said.

According to the latest India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) report, health care has become one of India’s largest sectors and its value is expected to reach $ 50 billion by 2033. Meanwhile, the value of its e-health market is estimated to reach $ 10.6 billion by 2025, while that of the pharmaceutical industry is expected to reach $ 130 billion by 2030.
',

UNFPA Representative in India Andrea Wojnar

In its latest "State of World Population Report," the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said India will have around 2.9 million people more than China sometime in the middle of this year. India will have an estimated 1.429 billion people versus mainland China's 1.426 billion at that time. The same report also showed that India has the world's largest number of people between the ages of 15 and 24, at 254 million.

This projection by the U.N. has sparked expectations for India to become an even bigger economic and global heavyweight, with the country’s young citizenry set to drive the country’s economic growth for years to come.

Andrea Wojnar, the UNFPA representative in India, said the latest report should symbolize progress and development if individual rights and choices are being upheld. She added that India’s rising number of working-age people is expected to give the country more opportunities for economic growth and help cement its place as a global power.

“It is a milestone representing historic advances for humanity in medicine, science, health, agriculture, and education,” said Wojnar.

Compared to other global powers like the U.S. or China, India has a much younger population, a higher fertility rate, and has seen a decrease in infant mortality over the last three decades, according to 2021 World Bank data.

Since gaining its independence in 1974, India has seen its population grow by more than 400% and has emerged as a global economic titan with a $3 trillion economy — the third largest in Asia. The country is also a major exporter of software, vaccines, and jewelry, among other products and services that other nations have come to rely on as the global standard of excellence.

',

“The biggest foundation of those ties is mutual trust and mutual respect.

The minister added that more than 26 states in India have adopted tech startup policies.

',

',
