Nestled among protected landscape and nature sanctuaries, Teterow in northwestern Germany boasts the usual traditional features that attract many tourists. However, unknown to many, the picturesque city is a hotbed of innovation, especially in the biomedical and biotechnology fields.
Founded in 1989, Miltenyi Biotec is a global leader in biomedical research. It develops cellular therapy products for cell isolation, flow cytometry, sample preparation, cell culture, molecular analysis, and clinical application, among others.
Operating under rigorous standards, its plant is equipped to produce any need in the laboratory bench to a patient’s bedside – from cell culture media, GMP cytokines, freezing bags to high-end apheresis products. The company employs 300 people in Teterow and another 1,700 around the world.
Another medical technology company based in Teterow, Allmed Medical Industries designs, makes and markets synthetic hollow-fiber membranes in industrial scale for utilization in medical and industrial areas. To date, it has around 200 employees bases in the city.
An example of a smart, green city, Teterow produces its own electricity through solar power and biogas. Three homegrown pioneers, Emano, Robin, and Apex are looking to develop a new way to generate power through water electrolysis and store hydrogen in special synthetic tubes.
Leading the way in green production, Cornpack makes disposable cutlery and AdFis produces activated carbon or activated charcoal using also only organic materials.
Led by Mayor Reinhard Dettmann since 1990, the city is determined to be a completely digitalized city for residents and businesses in a few years.
