P.T Toba Surimi Industries has grown significantly since its establishment in 1997. Aside from diversifying its product line, which first featured only pasteurized crabmeat but now includes both frozen and canned seafood, the company has expanded its market beyond Asia.

Marketing Director Gindra Tardy said: “Every year we have to innovate and come up with new products and some of them will make it and some of them will not make it. For those that make it, it’s like hitting the jackpot.”
Each year, Toba Surimi exhibits its products at the Seafood Expo North America (formerly known as the Boston Seafood Show), the region’s leading seafood trade event that attracts more than 20,000 buyers and suppliers within the industry.
Toba Surimi is determined to grow as competitive as its older rivals in the international market through regular participation in Seafood Expo North America and Seafood Expo Global in Brussels, the world’s largest seafood trade event.
Tardy also said: “Our main market is the United States where we’ve invested every year by joining exhibitions like the Boston Seafood Show, as well as the Brussels Seafood Show. We do a minimum of three exhibitions a year.”
Apart from the United States and the European Union, the company’s largest markets are in Asia Pacific, particularly Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia.
Based in Medan in North Sumatra, Toba Sumatra operates six factories in Indonesia, two of which are located in Jakarta and Makassar.
