Originally established in 1999 as a garment manufacturer, Lat War has diversified into three other industries in the last 15 years –paper and pulp production, power generation, and property development – while retaining its position as one of the largest textile and garment makers in Myanmar.
“We are now more focused on the development, on both residential and industrial areas. We would like to see more businesses invest in Myanmar,” said Chairman Dr. Khin Maung Aye.
Its maiden development projects were the Polo Club Asia Residence, an integrated development within the inner city of Yangon, and the Yaeni Industrial Park in the north of the country. Aside from developing industrial parks and residential and commercial property, the chairman also wants to build educational facilities.
“We are also looking at potential investment from the Japanese in the development area. We’re working on various trade promotions in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan. For the next two to three years, we will be looking into the property sectors,” he said.
For its garment business, Lat War is a the contract manufacturer for several international brands from Europe, Japan, South Korea, Russia and Hong Kong, employing more than 2,000 people.
For its pulp and paper operations, the company owns a factory in Yaeni that produces cardboard, packing paper, and cement wrapping paper with an annual capacity of up to 5,500 tons of cardboard and 25,000 tons of packing papers.
“The country is going on the right track. Now is the time for high-return in Myanmar and it’s an opportunity for partners wanting to invest,” he also said.
