With a recent influx of Japanese investment in the region, GMI POST sat down with RAV Head of National and International Funds Biljana</p>
<p>Vrzic and Head of Investment Ivan Borovcanin to find out the organization’s next steps.</p>
<p>“In the last two years, we’ve seen a definite rise in new inquiries about Vojvodina,” pointed out Borovcanin, who goes on to say that around 80% of all visits of foreign investors are from the automotive sector. Currently, the region’s biggest foreign investors include Japanese multinationals like Japan Tobacco International (JTI), Nidec, and Toyo Tires.</p>
<p>For Vrzic, Vojvodina has become a favorite investment destination for Japanese companies mainly because of competitive operating costs, favorable tax system, incentives, and location.</p>

<p>“Vojvodina is in a very good position in Europe. We are on the border with the EU and are bordered by several countries. It’s an ideal location for cost-effectively distribution products to the region, and EU,” she said. Also, according to Vrzic, residents are very welcoming and work-driven, traits that are very familiar to the Japanese.</p>
<p>Since 2010, RAV hopes to strengthen its partnerships with various Japanese institutions, like Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and Japan Business Alliance in Serbia (JBAS).</p>',

<p>“Berlitz already existed in Serbia before World War I. It was one of the first few Berlitz centers to open in Europe, together with those in Paris and Rome,” said Bernacca, who added that the school closed down during World War II and did not reopen until 2004.</p>
<p>Under Michela and her husband, Berlitz in Serbia has become the market leader, serving three distinct markets: children, private individuals and corporate partners, which include Mercator, Dior, Gorenje, Japan Tobacco International, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.</p>

<p>The company chief pointed out that Kodar has been focused on building sources of clean energy as well as the necessary infrastructure needed to connect these new capacities to the grid, to complement the Serbian government’s commitment to transition to “green energy solutions.”</p>

<p>“Agriculture has always been part of our focus,” Aquafarm SEE Director General Aleksandar Arbutina told GMI POST. Among its current projects, Arbutina said, is the reconstruction of a six-hectare greenhouse that it acquired in 2019 and is being fitted for the production of organic food items for both the local and global markets.</p>
<p>With one of the most fertile lands in Europe and deep roots in food production, Serbia plays a significant part in the growth plans of Aquafarm SEE, according to Arbutina.</p>
<p>Outside of agriculture, he adds, Aquafarm SEE has strengthened bilateral ties through a youth-focused program called the Balkan Japan Bowl, a quiz competition centered on Japanese history and culture for students in the Balkan region. Since it began in 2017, many young people from the Balkan region have participated in the competition. The success of the Balkan Japan Bowl is attributed to the support given by various Japanese companies, like Seiko.</p>
<p>“We (Aquafarm SEE) started from zero and grew in Serbia,” said Arbutina, who urged people to look into the group’s other projects.</p>
<p>As the official representative of the Balkan region to the Japan Southeast Europe Business Association, Arbutina is exploring new avenues through which Aquafarm SEE can expand cultural and art exchanges between Southeastern European countries and Japan.</p>',

<p>“Treninzi means training in English because that’s really what we provide,” said Burazor, who pointed out that his company creates world-class workshops to the elevate verbal and non-verbal communication, sales, and overall organization skills of their clients’ employees.</p>
<p>A long-time consultant for the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, Burazor integrated the Japanese philosophy of <em>kaizen, </em>or continuous improvement, in his training programs and found that it well accepted in Serbia because it helped in meeting the common objectives of quality control, on-time delivery and waste reduction.</p>
<p>Asked why Japanese businesses should consider investing in Serbia, Burazor pointed to the open and hospitable nature of Serbians, adding that many of his colleagues from Japan had expressed delight in the quality of service they receive from Serbian businesses.</p>
<p>“With us, you always have a friend. At least, you will have an enjoyable time here and very good food. Very good food, believe me. Now, we also have many Japanese restaurants, not only to eat sushi but also miso soup, gyoza, or whatever I want to eat. So, Serbia has good location,” he said.</p>',

<p>To mark the 140th anniversary of bilateral relations between Japan and Serbia, GMI POST met with Her Excellency Aleksandra Kovac, <a href="http://www.tokyo.mfa.gov.rs/ambassador.php">Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Tokyo</a>, to discuss the current state of affairs between the two countries and the future of bilateral ties.</p>
<p>“I see ourselves as long-time friends that are growing together,” Kovac said, as she highlighted the increasing cooperation in the political and economic spheres through the years. According to the ambassador, this is evident in the increasing frequency of state visits between the two countries in recent decades, the most notable of which was the late prime minister Shinzo Abe’s trip to Serbia in 2018 wherein he launched The Western Balkan Initiative.</p>
<p>Today, Japan is the fifth-largest foreign investor in Serbia. Kovac identified car parts industry, pharmaceuticals, chemical industry, food, electronics etc. as the biggest recipients of Japanese investment, with start-ups, digital industry and green energy as great potentials for bigger Japanese presence.</p>
<p>In the diplomatic sphere, Kovac shared that Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, during her visit to attend the state funeral of slain prime minister Shinzo Abe, met with her counterpart, Fumio Kishida, and with Minister of Digital Affairs Taro Kono to explore opportunities to digitalize government processes.</p>
<p>“Serbia is building a strong image of a country with thriving economic opportunities and being responsive to the new trends,” said the ambassador, who pointed out Serbia could easily innovate and develop with the help of Japan. “Both Serbia and Japan are looking towards the future and thinking of ways to prosper and contribute to the global community.”</p>',

<p>GMI POST talked to the president of the municipality, Zoran Semenovic, to get a better understanding of what Šid has to offer to local and foreign investors.</p>
<p>“Yes, Šid’s geographic position and efficient railways have turned the town into a portal to European Union countries and other Balkan nations. But Šid is also strong in agriculture, manufacturing, and food production,” said the president, adding its welcoming, diverse, and vibrant culture, coupled with its strong talent pool, are why existing investors chose to conduct their business in Šid.</p>
<p>According to President Semenovic, Šid wants to help businesses and people reach their full potential by providing them with everything they need to succeed, especially in the food production and food processing sector, which is a high-priority for the municipality.</p>
<p>“Food is the future. Šid has over 40,000 hectares of land dedicated to agricultural and food production”, the president said.</p>
<p>Semenovic also shared that Šid has worked with the Japanese government and Japanese experts from the private sector, through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, on optimizing the town’s food production, meat processing, and waste management system.</p>
<p>As an indicator of Serbia’s efforts to produce world-class food products, the president stressed that Serbian law prohibits the production and importation of any genetically modified foods and seeds.</p>
<p>He also hopes more investors will spend a lot of time in the Municipality of Šid because he is very sure that they be charmed by the town and stay longer.</p>',

<p>“We have been fostering good relations with Serbia despite the distance of 9,000 km,” said the Ambassador, who highlighted the mutual respect and trust that have been grown for more than a century. Katsumata also expressed his gratitude to the Serbia government, local authorities, and cultural groups for organizing several events to commemorate the milestone.</p>
<p>As the two nations see the number of high-level state visits increase, Katsumata pointed out that relations between Japan and Serbia, both diplomatic and economic, have grown much closer over time.</p>
<p>The highpoint came during the visit of late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2018, when he unveiled the Western Balkans Cooperation Initiative, which aims to support socio-economic reforms in the region ahead of their accession to the European Union.</p>
<p>Today, there are more than 30 Japanese companies doing business in Serbia including JTI, Yazaki Corporation, Toyo Tire Corporation, and Nidec Corporation, all of which, according to Katsumata, recognized Serbia’s high-quality products, world-class talent, and commitment to social development.</p>
<p>“There are many regional and global issues that we need to tackle together, such as sustainable development, climate change, clean energy, and disaster management. Given our history of friendship and cooperation, I believe Japan and Serbia can be excellent partners to take on these responsibilities for future generations,” he said.</p>
<p>The Ambassador also expressed interest in further promoting sports exchanges with Serbia. The two countries both progressed beyond the group stages in the FIFA World Cup Finals in Qatar this year. Serbia’s national team manager, Dragan Stojkovic, spent seven years in Japan playing for Japanese club Nagoya Grampus Eight.</p>
<p>“In my two years as Ambassador of Japan in Serbia, I have experienced the warm hospitality of the Serbian people and the country’s rich culture and tradition,” said Katsumata as he invited more Japanese companies and tourists to visit Serbia and experience the country.</p>',

<p>GMI POST spoke with RAS Director for International Cooperation Nikola Jankovic and Public Relations and Communications Advisor Dragana Krunic to ask them: Why invest in Serbia?</p>
<p>“We are here to show all the different opportunities in Serbia from north to south, from east to west,” said Jankovic, who stressed that foreign direct investment has grown steadily over the past four years and has averaged 3 billion euros annually. Since 2007, inward foreign investment has amounted to more than 37 billion euros.</p>
<p>Jankovic attributes the growing interest in Serbia to four main factors: the availability of highly skilled labor as evidenced by Serbia's low unemployment rate of 12.8%; competitive operating costs relative to neighboring countries; its strategic location, which gives businesses an opportunity to operate as a manufacturing hub for duty-free exports to more than 1 billion consumers in the EU; and corporate and payroll tax incentives provided by the government to foreign investors.</p>
<p>By promoting all of these benefits, RAS has built a well-connected ecosystem of international and domestic companies, among which are Nidec, ZF Friedrichshafen, Toyo Tires, Bizerba, Schneider Electric, Yazaki, Johnson Electric, Siemens, and Bosch.</p>
<p>“They have a good partner in our agency to help and guide them through the whole process,” said Jankovic, who mentions that Serbia leads Western Balkan nations, as well as the Central and Eastern European regions, in the number of greenfield projects. Of the 147 greenfield projects in the Western Balkans, 105 are located in Serbia.</p>
<p>Meanwhile Krunic urges more investors to check out Serbia, adding that RAS is ready to provide support, from planning all the way to the implementation.</p>
<p>“We communicate with our partner investors and offer after-care services, so they can be in touch with us for any issues even after implementation. RAS Direct Investment Advisors are available at all times to answer any questions or provide assistance. That's the kind of stable and reliable partner they can expect in Serbia,” Krunic said.</p>',

<p>“Good connections. Good service. You can’t have this kind of growth without both,” said <a href="https://www.mumnet.rs/en/home/">M&M Serbia</a> CEO Filip Simovic, who attributes that success also to how the company surmounted every challenge caused by countrywide lockdowns at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, such as surging demand for logistical services and supply chain bottlenecks.</p>
<p>What’s next for Militzer & Munch in Serbia?</p>
<p>With the continued influx of foreign multinational companies in the country, Simovic believes M&M Serbia needs to strengthen its existing relationships and form partnerships with new clients, while living up to its global reputation as a trustworthy, reliable and safe handler of goods.</p>
<p>To achieve that, the chief executive also told GMI POST that M&M Serbia is investing a lot in automation to minimize human error and deliver faster, more effective logistical solutions.</p>',

<p>Takeda Serbia Director and Country Head Milena Argirovic shared with GMI POST how Asia’s largest pharmaceutical has strengthened Serbia’s healthcare system over the past 10 years and how it wants to provide full value to the country.</p>
<p>“Our priority is to introduce innovations that support biotechnology and data utilization in healthcare,” said Argirovic, who reaffirmed Takeda’s commitment to work closely with the government and various sectors to deliver a healthier future.</p>
<p>Takeda is grateful for the cooperation of Serbia’s private and public sectors, including the Office for IT and eGovernment and the Ministry of Health, as well as Heliant company, in the creation and the implementation of telemedicine and telehealth services, the first ever of its kind in Serbia. Through a video call, any Serb, regardless of location, can undergo medical examinations or have a consultation.</p>
<p>On Takeda’s future plans in Serbia, Argirovic is most excited about further driving health and biotech innovation across various sectors to expand access to quality healthcare.</p>

<p>“The company came about from one simple question: How can we help the local community? That has remained the company’s guiding mission since it was founded in 1991,” recalled Ljubojevic.</p>
<p>By supporting the sustainable farming practices of its home village of Sirogojno in the Mount Zlatibor region in western Serbia, Sirogojno Co. is able to share some of Serbia’s best products with the rest of the world. Also, the company helps hundreds of female knitters in the village by selling their handmade wool garments in Serbia and around the world.</p>
<p>“Our markets are mainly Western Europe, the U.S., Canada, Australia, India, and Japan,” said Ljubojevic, who takes pride that Sirogojno’s products can now be found in more than 35 countries and have become synonymous with high quality and safety.</p>
<p>Ljubojevic hopes to see more international investors come to Serbia because the country has a lot to offer.</p>
<p>“Serbia is a country of great natural beauty. There are a lot of opportunities here,” Ljubojevic said.</p>',

<p>“We are not only a commercial law firm,” said Popovic, who highlights that JPM also provides its international clients with key insights on the local market and formulates innovative solutions for every industry, from energy, banking, transport, manufacturing and telecommunications. Recent reports, including those from the National Bank of Serbia and the Development Agency of Serbia (RAS), have indicated a steady rise in foreign investments in the country.</p>
<p>“Serbia is a very good place to invest because the country is a gateway, both to the east and to the west. Serbia’s laws are up to EU standards and under Serbian law, foreign investors are entitled to use their own laws in their commercial dealings,” said Popovic, who mentions that several foreign multinationals were drawn to the country because of its huge pool of highly-skilled workers and hospitable locals.</p>

<p>Asked about why Serbia is the ideal host for these global IT conferences, Mirkovic stressed that the basic information technology has been deeply integrated into Serbia’s education system. According to Eurostat, computer science is a compulsory subject in Serbia for first graders, while basic programming and data-analysis are introduced as early as the third grade.</p>

<p>To mark the 140th anniversary of bilateral relations between Japan and Serbia, GMI POST met with Her Excellency Aleksandra Kovac, <a href="http://www.tokyo.mfa.gov.rs/ambassador.php">Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Tokyo</a>, to discuss the current state of affairs between the two countries and the future of bilateral ties.</p>
<p>“I see ourselves as long-time friends that are growing together,” Kovac said, as she highlighted the increasing cooperation in the political and economic spheres through the years. According to the ambassador, this is evident in the increasing frequency of state visits between the two countries in recent decades, the most notable of which was the late prime minister Shinzo Abe’s trip to Serbia in 2018 wherein he launched The Western Balkan Initiative.</p>
<p>Today, Japan is the fifth-largest foreign investor in Serbia. Kovac identified car parts industry, pharmaceuticals, chemical industry, food, electronics etc. as the biggest recipients of Japanese investment, with start-ups, digital industry and green energy as great potentials for bigger Japanese presence.</p>
<p>In the diplomatic sphere, Kovac shared that Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, during her visit to attend the state funeral of slain prime minister Shinzo Abe, met with her counterpart, Fumio Kishida, and with Minister of Digital Affairs Taro Kono to explore opportunities to digitalize government processes.</p>
<p>“Serbia is building a strong image of a country with thriving economic opportunities and being responsive to the new trends,” said the ambassador, who pointed out Serbia could easily innovate and develop with the help of Japan. “Both Serbia and Japan are looking towards the future and thinking of ways to prosper and contribute to the global community.”</p>',

With a recent influx of Japanese investment in the region, GMI POST sat down with RAV Head of National and International Funds Biljana</p>
<p>Vrzic and Head of Investment Ivan Borovcanin to find out the organization’s next steps.</p>
<p>“In the last two years, we’ve seen a definite rise in new inquiries about Vojvodina,” pointed out Borovcanin, who goes on to say that around 80% of all visits of foreign investors are from the automotive sector. Currently, the region’s biggest foreign investors include Japanese multinationals like Japan Tobacco International (JTI), Nidec, and Toyo Tires.</p>
<p>For Vrzic, Vojvodina has become a favorite investment destination for Japanese companies mainly because of competitive operating costs, favorable tax system, incentives, and location.</p>

<p>“Vojvodina is in a very good position in Europe. We are on the border with the EU and are bordered by several countries. It’s an ideal location for cost-effectively distribution products to the region, and EU,” she said. Also, according to Vrzic, residents are very welcoming and work-driven, traits that are very familiar to the Japanese.</p>
<p>Since 2010, RAV hopes to strengthen its partnerships with various Japanese institutions, like Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and Japan Business Alliance in Serbia (JBAS).</p>',

<p>“Berlitz already existed in Serbia before World War I. It was one of the first few Berlitz centers to open in Europe, together with those in Paris and Rome,” said Bernacca, who added that the school closed down during World War II and did not reopen until 2004.</p>
<p>Under Michela and her husband, Berlitz in Serbia has become the market leader, serving three distinct markets: children, private individuals and corporate partners, which include Mercator, Dior, Gorenje, Japan Tobacco International, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.</p>

<p>The company chief pointed out that Kodar has been focused on building sources of clean energy as well as the necessary infrastructure needed to connect these new capacities to the grid, to complement the Serbian government’s commitment to transition to “green energy solutions.”</p>
<p>Because they benefit people and the planet, clean energy and sustainable growth have been at the heart of Kodar’s mission in the last few years. <p>“Agriculture has always been part of our focus,” Aquafarm SEE Director General Aleksandar Arbutina told GMI POST. Among its current projects, Arbutina said, is the reconstruction of a six-hectare greenhouse that it acquired in 2019 and is being fitted for the production of organic food items for both the local and global markets.</p>
<p>With one of the most fertile lands in Europe and deep roots in food production, Serbia plays a significant part in the growth plans of Aquafarm SEE, according to Arbutina.</p>
<p>Outside of agriculture, he adds, Aquafarm SEE has strengthened bilateral ties through a youth-focused program called the Balkan Japan Bowl, a quiz competition centered on Japanese history and culture for students in the Balkan region. Since it began in 2017, many young people from the Balkan region have participated in the competition. The success of the Balkan Japan Bowl is attributed to the support given by various Japanese companies, like Seiko.</p>
<p>“We (Aquafarm SEE) started from zero and grew in Serbia,” said Arbutina, who urged people to look into the group’s other projects.</p>
<p>As the official representative of the Balkan region to the Japan Southeast Europe Business Association, Arbutina is exploring new avenues through which Aquafarm SEE can expand cultural and art exchanges between Southeastern European countries and Japan.</p>',

<p>“Treninzi means training in English because that’s really what we provide,” said Burazor, who pointed out that his company creates world-class workshops to the elevate verbal and non-verbal communication, sales, and overall organization skills of their clients’ employees.</p>
<p>A long-time consultant for the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, Burazor integrated the Japanese philosophy of <em>kaizen, </em>or continuous improvement, in his training programs and found that it well accepted in Serbia because it helped in meeting the common objectives of quality control, on-time delivery and waste reduction.</p>
<p>Asked why Japanese businesses should consider investing in Serbia, Burazor pointed to the open and hospitable nature of Serbians, adding that many of his colleagues from Japan had expressed delight in the quality of service they receive from Serbian businesses.</p>
<p>“With us, you always have a friend. At least, you will have an enjoyable time here and very good food. Very good food, believe me. Now, we also have many Japanese restaurants, not only to eat sushi but also miso soup, gyoza, or whatever I want to eat. So, Serbia has good location,” he said.</p>',

<p>To mark the 140th anniversary of bilateral relations between Japan and Serbia, GMI POST met with Her Excellency Aleksandra Kovac, <a href="http://www.tokyo.mfa.gov.rs/ambassador.php">Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Tokyo</a>, to discuss the current state of affairs between the two countries and the future of bilateral ties.</p>
<p>“I see ourselves as long-time friends that are growing together,” Kovac said, as she highlighted the increasing cooperation in the political and economic spheres through the years. According to the ambassador, this is evident in the increasing frequency of state visits between the two countries in recent decades, the most notable of which was the late prime minister Shinzo Abe’s trip to Serbia in 2018 wherein he launched The Western Balkan Initiative.</p>
<p>Today, Japan is the fifth-largest foreign investor in Serbia. Kovac identified car parts industry, pharmaceuticals, chemical industry, food, electronics etc. as the biggest recipients of Japanese investment, with start-ups, digital industry and green energy as great potentials for bigger Japanese presence.</p>
<p>In the diplomatic sphere, Kovac shared that Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, during her visit to attend the state funeral of slain prime minister Shinzo Abe, met with her counterpart, Fumio Kishida, and with Minister of Digital Affairs Taro Kono to explore opportunities to digitalize government processes.</p>
<p>“Serbia is building a strong image of a country with thriving economic opportunities and being responsive to the new trends,” said the ambassador, who pointed out Serbia could easily innovate and develop with the help of Japan. “Both Serbia and Japan are looking towards the future and thinking of ways to prosper and contribute to the global community.”</p>',

<p>GMI POST talked to the president of the municipality, Zoran Semenovic, to get a better understanding of what Šid has to offer to local and foreign investors.</p>
<p>“Yes, Šid’s geographic position and efficient railways have turned the town into a portal to European Union countries and other Balkan nations. But Šid is also strong in agriculture, manufacturing, and food production,” said the president, adding its welcoming, diverse, and vibrant culture, coupled with its strong talent pool, are why existing investors chose to conduct their business in Šid.</p>
<p>According to President Semenovic, Šid wants to help businesses and people reach their full potential by providing them with everything they need to succeed, especially in the food production and food processing sector, which is a high-priority for the municipality.</p>
<p>“Food is the future. Šid has over 40,000 hectares of land dedicated to agricultural and food production”, the president said.</p>
<p>Semenovic also shared that Šid has worked with the Japanese government and Japanese experts from the private sector, through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, on optimizing the town’s food production, meat processing, and waste management system.</p>
<p>As an indicator of Serbia’s efforts to produce world-class food products, the president stressed that Serbian law prohibits the production and importation of any genetically modified foods and seeds.</p>
<p>He also hopes more investors will spend a lot of time in the Municipality of Šid because he is very sure that they be charmed by the town and stay longer.</p>',

<p>“We have been fostering good relations with Serbia despite the distance of 9,000 km,” said the Ambassador, who highlighted the mutual respect and trust that have been grown for more than a century. Katsumata also expressed his gratitude to the Serbia government, local authorities, and cultural groups for organizing several events to commemorate the milestone.</p>
<p>As the two nations see the number of high-level state visits increase, Katsumata pointed out that relations between Japan and Serbia, both diplomatic and economic, have grown much closer over time.</p>
<p>The highpoint came during the visit of late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2018, when he unveiled the Western Balkans Cooperation Initiative, which aims to support socio-economic reforms in the region ahead of their accession to the European Union.</p>
<p>Today, there are more than 30 Japanese companies doing business in Serbia including JTI, Yazaki Corporation, Toyo Tire Corporation, and Nidec Corporation, all of which, according to Katsumata, recognized Serbia’s high-quality products, world-class talent, and commitment to social development.</p>
<p>“There are many regional and global issues that we need to tackle together, such as sustainable development, climate change, clean energy, and disaster management. Given our history of friendship and cooperation, I believe Japan and Serbia can be excellent partners to take on these responsibilities for future generations,” he said.</p>
<p>The Ambassador also expressed interest in further promoting sports exchanges with Serbia. The two countries both progressed beyond the group stages in the FIFA World Cup Finals in Qatar this year. Serbia’s national team manager, Dragan Stojkovic, spent seven years in Japan playing for Japanese club Nagoya Grampus Eight.</p>
<p>“In my two years as Ambassador of Japan in Serbia, I have experienced the warm hospitality of the Serbian people and the country’s rich culture and tradition,” said Katsumata as he invited more Japanese companies and tourists to visit Serbia and experience the country.</p>',

<p>GMI POST spoke with RAS Director for International Cooperation Nikola Jankovic and Public Relations and Communications Advisor Dragana Krunic to ask them: Why invest in Serbia?</p>
<p>“We are here to show all the different opportunities in Serbia from north to south, from east to west,” said Jankovic, who stressed that foreign direct investment has grown steadily over the past four years and has averaged 3 billion euros annually. Since 2007, inward foreign investment has amounted to more than 37 billion euros.</p>
<p>Jankovic attributes the growing interest in Serbia to four main factors: the availability of highly skilled labor as evidenced by Serbia's low unemployment rate of 12.8%; competitive operating costs relative to neighboring countries; its strategic location, which gives businesses an opportunity to operate as a manufacturing hub for duty-free exports to more than 1 billion consumers in the EU; and corporate and payroll tax incentives provided by the government to foreign investors.</p>
<p>By promoting all of these benefits, RAS has built a well-connected ecosystem of international and domestic companies, among which are Nidec, ZF Friedrichshafen, Toyo Tires, Bizerba, Schneider Electric, Yazaki, Johnson Electric, Siemens, and Bosch.</p>
<p>“They have a good partner in our agency to help and guide them through the whole process,” said Jankovic, who mentions that Serbia leads Western Balkan nations, as well as the Central and Eastern European regions, in the number of greenfield projects. Of the 147 greenfield projects in the Western Balkans, 105 are located in Serbia.</p>
<p>Meanwhile Krunic urges more investors to check out Serbia, adding that RAS is ready to provide support, from planning all the way to the implementation.</p>
<p>“We communicate with our partner investors and offer after-care services, so they can be in touch with us for any issues even after implementation. RAS Direct Investment Advisors are available at all times to answer any questions or provide assistance. That's the kind of stable and reliable partner they can expect in Serbia,” Krunic said.</p>',

<p>“Good connections. Good service. You can’t have this kind of growth without both,” said <a href="https://www.mumnet.rs/en/home/">M&M Serbia</a> CEO Filip Simovic, who attributes that success also to how the company surmounted every challenge caused by countrywide lockdowns at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, such as surging demand for logistical services and supply chain bottlenecks.</p>
<p>What’s next for Militzer & Munch in Serbia?</p>
<p>With the continued influx of foreign multinational companies in the country, Simovic believes M&M Serbia needs to strengthen its existing relationships and form partnerships with new clients, while living up to its global reputation as a trustworthy, reliable and safe handler of goods.</p>
<p>To achieve that, the chief executive also told GMI POST that M&M Serbia is investing a lot in automation to minimize human error and deliver faster, more effective logistical solutions.</p>',

<p>Takeda Serbia Director and Country Head Milena Argirovic shared with GMI POST how Asia’s largest pharmaceutical has strengthened Serbia’s healthcare system over the past 10 years and how it wants to provide full value to the country.</p>
<p>“Our priority is to introduce innovations that support biotechnology and data utilization in healthcare,” said Argirovic, who reaffirmed Takeda’s commitment to work closely with the government and various sectors to deliver a healthier future.</p>
<p>Takeda is grateful for the cooperation of Serbia’s private and public sectors, including the Office for IT and eGovernment and the Ministry of Health, as well as Heliant company, in the creation and the implementation of telemedicine and telehealth services, the first ever of its kind in Serbia. Through a video call, any Serb, regardless of location, can undergo medical examinations or have a consultation.</p>
<p>On Takeda’s future plans in Serbia, Argirovic is most excited about further driving health and biotech innovation across various sectors to expand access to quality healthcare.</p>
<p>Among its efforts in Serbia are projects with the Ministry of Science, Institute for Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, Institute for Artificial Intelligence, the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the BIO4 Campus, a new bio-economic camp in Belgrade that focuses in biomedicine, biotechnology, bioinformatics, and biodiversity.</p>',

<p>“The company came about from one simple question: How can we help the local community? That has remained the company’s guiding mission since it was founded in 1991,” recalled Ljubojevic.</p>
<p>By supporting the sustainable farming practices of its home village of Sirogojno in the Mount Zlatibor region in western Serbia, Sirogojno Co. is able to share some of Serbia’s best products with the rest of the world. Also, the company helps hundreds of female knitters in the village by selling their handmade wool garments in Serbia and around the world.</p>
<p>“Our markets are mainly Western Europe, the U.S., Canada, Australia, India, and Japan,” said Ljubojevic, who takes pride that Sirogojno’s products can now be found in more than 35 countries and have become synonymous with high quality and safety.</p>
<p>Ljubojevic hopes to see more international investors come to Serbia because the country has a lot to offer.</p>
<p>“Serbia is a country of great natural beauty. There are a lot of opportunities here,” Ljubojevic said.</p>',

<p>“We are not only a commercial law firm,” said Popovic, who highlights that JPM also provides its international clients with key insights on the local market and formulates innovative solutions for every industry, from energy, banking, transport, manufacturing and telecommunications. Recent reports, including those from the National Bank of Serbia and the Development Agency of Serbia (RAS), have indicated a steady rise in foreign investments in the country.</p>
<p>“Serbia is a very good place to invest because the country is a gateway, both to the east and to the west. Serbia’s laws are up to EU standards and under Serbian law, foreign investors are entitled to use their own laws in their commercial dealings,” said Popovic, who mentions that several foreign multinationals were drawn to the country because of its huge pool of highly-skilled workers and hospitable locals.</p>

<p>Asked about why Serbia is the ideal host for these global IT conferences, Mirkovic stressed that the basic information technology has been deeply integrated into Serbia’s education system. According to Eurostat, computer science is a compulsory subject in Serbia for first graders, while basic programming and data-analysis are introduced as early as the third grade.</p>

<p>To mark the 140th anniversary of bilateral relations between Japan and Serbia, GMI POST met with Her Excellency Aleksandra Kovac, <a href="http://www.tokyo.mfa.gov.rs/ambassador.php">Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Tokyo</a>, to discuss the current state of affairs between the two countries and the future of bilateral ties.</p>
<p>“I see ourselves as long-time friends that are growing together,” Kovac said, as she highlighted the increasing cooperation in the political and economic spheres through the years. According to the ambassador, this is evident in the increasing frequency of state visits between the two countries in recent decades, the most notable of which was the late prime minister Shinzo Abe’s trip to Serbia in 2018 wherein he launched The Western Balkan Initiative.</p>
<p>Today, Japan is the fifth-largest foreign investor in Serbia. Kovac identified car parts industry, pharmaceuticals, chemical industry, food, electronics etc. as the biggest recipients of Japanese investment, with start-ups, digital industry and green energy as great potentials for bigger Japanese presence.</p>
<p>In the diplomatic sphere, Kovac shared that Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, during her visit to attend the state funeral of slain prime minister Shinzo Abe, met with her counterpart, Fumio Kishida, and with Minister of Digital Affairs Taro Kono to explore opportunities to digitalize government processes.</p>
<p>“Serbia is building a strong image of a country with thriving economic opportunities and being responsive to the new trends,” said the ambassador, who pointed out Serbia could easily innovate and develop with the help of Japan. “Both Serbia and Japan are looking towards the future and thinking of ways to prosper and contribute to the global community.”</p>',
